As a Senior FinOps Engineer on our Cloud Platform Engineering team, you will drive financial efficiency across our cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will develop and implement strategies to optimize cloud spending while maintaining high performance and reliability. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, financial acumen, and collaboration, as you'll work closely with engineering, finance, and product teams to foster cost efficiency and build a cost-conscious culture. Through innovative solutions, advanced reporting, and actionable insights, you'll directly impact our bottom line while supporting teams to make informed, data-driven decisions.
Develop and implement FinOps strategies to reduce cloud spending while maintaining performance, reliability, and a positive developer experience.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, and product, to drive cost-efficient cloud usage.
Create and maintain reporting dashboards to increase visibility into cloud costs and usage trends.
Foster a cost-conscious culture by educating teams on FinOps principles, best practices, and cost optimization techniques.
Analyze cloud usage patterns and recommend actionable steps to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Research and implement tools and processes that enable fine-grained quota management and accountability across teams.
Stay current on cloud cost management trends and apply the latest methodologies to Upwork's environment.
Proven Experience: 5+ years of experience in DevOps or cloud infrastructure roles, with at least 2+ years in FinOps and a track record of optimizing cloud costs at scale.
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Python, AWS, and GCP workflows, IaC tools along with a deep understanding of cloud ecosystems and AI/ML cloud compute requirements for training and inference.
Passion for Impact: Enthusiasm for identifying cost-saving opportunities and driving financial efficiency to make a tangible impact on the bottom line.
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret cloud usage data, provide actionable insights, and recommend improvements for cost efficiency.
Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with teams of varying technical proficiency across the organization.
Continuous Learner: A commitment to staying updated on the latest advancements in FinOps, cloud ecosystems, and related tools.
Hands-On Experience: Familiarity with large-scale FinOps platforms and technologies for cost management and reporting.

The annual base salary range for this position is displayed below. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
